About Ernest McLeod: Why an Adelaide Hypnotherapist Runs an Audio Library
I did not come to hypnotherapy as a believer. I came to it because nothing else had worked.

Why does an Adelaide hypnotherapist recommend audio sessions?
Because most people who need help will never sit in my chair. I see clients one at a time, in one city, at Australian consulting rates. A recorded session is US$18.95, about A$27, and can be used at two in the morning, which is when a lot of these problems are actually at their worst. This site is where I put the sessions I think are worth the money — and I say plainly below how I’m paid for it.
The accident that changed my career
Some years ago I was hit by a car in a hit-and-run. The physical injuries healed. What followed did not: severe anxiety, PTSD, nightmares night after night, and a growing dependence on sleeping tablets to get any rest at all. Eventually the anxiety cost me my job.
I was sceptical about hypnotherapy. I went anyway, in Perth, because I had run out of other ideas. It worked — not instantly, and not like a magic trick, but steadily, in a way that talking about the accident had not. The nightmares stopped. I came off the tablets.
I retrained because of that. Everything I do now comes out of having been the person on the other side of it, which is also why you will not find me promising anyone a cure.
What I do now
I have practised as a clinical hypnotherapist in Adelaide for fourteen years, more than twelve of them working with cessation clients — smoking, vaping and gambling in particular. I also train other hypnotherapists in the strategy-based approach I developed for that work, rather than the script-reading most cessation training teaches. The Australian Hypnotherapists’ Association has reviewed those courses — smoking, gambling and vaping cessation — and approved them for its members’ CPD points: smoking and gambling first in 2021, and all three again in July 2026.
The areas I work in most: quitting smoking and vaping, gambling, anxiety, anger, public speaking, and trauma recovery.

What I am not. Hypnotherapy is not a registered profession in Australia. There is no AHPRA registration for it, which means I am not an AHPRA-registered health practitioner and I am not a psychologist. The memberships above are voluntary, and I have listed them so you can check them rather than take my word for it. If what you need is a registered psychologist or a psychiatrist, your GP is the right first call — and where that applies on this site, I say so on the page rather than in the small print.
How I choose what goes on this site
The sessions here are produced by Uncommon Knowledge in the UK, a company that has been making hypnosis audio since 1998. I did not record them and I do not sell them — I select which ones are worth recommending, explain who each one actually suits, and send you to the publisher to buy.
There are over a thousand of them. Most people do not need a thousand options; they need the right one. That sorting is the work, and it is the part a practising therapist can do that a product catalogue cannot.
How I’m paid: I earn a commission when you buy through the links on this site. It does not change your price, and it does not decide what I recommend — I would send you to these same sessions in a consultation. Prices are set by the publisher and charged in US dollars.
What a hypnosis audio can and cannot do
A recorded session is guided relaxation combined with targeted suggestion. It can help shift an automatic response that reasoning alone has not budged, and for a lot of everyday difficulties that is enough. What it is not: a treatment, a diagnosis, or a replacement for a therapist who can respond to you specifically.
If what you are dealing with is severe, or it has not shifted in a long time, see someone in person. That is not me being cautious for legal reasons — it is what I would tell you if you rang me.
